Spaghetti and Meatballs

This Spaghetti and Meatballs recipe was a classic when I was growing up... Its classic comfort food to have any time...


500 g beef mince
1 small zucchini, grated
1 small carrot, grated
4 mushrooms, finely chopped
5 spring onions, sliced
1 egg
1/3 cup parmesan cheese
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1 1/2 cups breadcrumbs
Salt and pepper, to taste

375 g uncooked spaghetti

pasta sauce
700ml bottle of tomato pure
1 tin crushed tomato
6 cloves garlic crushed
1 onion chopped fine
Fresh basil
Fresh oregano
Fresh thyme
Salt, pepper and sugar to taste


Combine meatball ingredients in a large bowl.

Form the mixture into meatballs.

Gently fry meatballs in a little oil, in a medium sauce pan until browned.

Add pasta sauce and simmer for about 30 minutes, until the meatballs are cooked through.

While the sauce is cooking, boil the spaghetti.

Serve meatballs over spaghetti with extra parmesan cheese.

Pasta Sauce
Make the pasta sauce by frying the onion and garlic.

Add in the tomato pure and crushed tomato

Chop the fresh herbs and add them

Season with salt, pepper and sugar
