Serves: 6-8

Lasagne is an all time classical Italian dish. This lasagne should impress all.


8oz lasagne (4"x 3" flat egg noodles)
1/2 cup each mixed parmesan and grated swiss or tasty cheddar cheese

Meat Sauce
2 cloves garlic crushed
1lb minced steak
3 onions diced
2 rashers of bacon diced
1 carrot diced or grated
2 bay leaves
1 teaspoon oregano
salt and pepper to taste
1 16oz can tomato soup
1 tablespoon oil

Cream Sauce
1 1/2 oz shortening
3 table4spoon flour
1 cup carnation evaporated milk
1 beef stock cube
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg


Simmer lasagne in a large pan of boiling water till tender.

Drain and drop into cold water. lift to a clean damp towel.

Meat Sauce
Brown minced steak in hot oil, add remaining ingredients.

Bring to the boil and simmer gently approximately 3/4 -1 hour. season to taste.

Cream Sauce
Melt shortening, blend in flour and seasonings. Cook 1 minute.

Gradually add Carnation Milk and beef cube dissolved in 1 cup water.

Stir consistantly till sauce boils and thickens.

Grease a large oven proof casserole, cover the bottom with a layer of meat sauce then a layer of prepared lasagne with ends turning up the sides of the dish.

Cover this with a layer of cream sauce and a dusting of grated cheese.

Repeat layers till all mixtures are used finishing with cream sauce and cheese.

Bake in moderate oven 180c.

Allow to stand 5 minutes and then serve.

If lasagne is not available use 8 ozs spaghetti or flat egg noodles
